Photograph of John Conlon, uncle of Seán. John was born in County Armagh. He went to US in late 40’s. John was a carpenter who lived in Copley Road, Upper Darby, Philadelphia. He served in the US Army in the Korean War. He married Mary Gilmartin from Bonniconlon from Mayo.
The Korean War (25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953) was fought between South and North Korea. A force led by the United States of America fought for the South – while China supported the North. The war arose from the division of Korea at the end of World War 2 and from the global tensions of the Cold War that developed immediately afterwards.
