What is happening in the photo?

Laurence McKeown (far right) with Jimmy Burns and Brendy Neilis in June 1992 outside Long Kesh. The men were about the commence the (three month) work-out scheme from Prison. This meant that the prisoners were leaving Long Kesh for good and were moved to Magheraberry Prison where they were release daily to work in Belfast. They then returned to the prison each night, and were released home each weekend.

Long Kesh, also known as Her Majesty’s Prison, the Maze, Maze Prison, or The H Blocks was a prison in Northern Ireland that was used to house paramilitary prisoners during the Troubles from mid-1971 to mid-2000. It was situated at the former Royal Air Force station of Long Kesh, on the outskirts of Lisburn.
