Maureen Dunne // County Cork

Album: Maureen Dunne // County Cork
Contributed by Billy and Dominic Dunne

Maureen Dunne (née Hourigan) was a gifted amateur, self-taught photographer. Her extensive archive of colour slides date from the early 1960s and gives a fascinating insight into ordinary and extraordinary events in County Cork and rural Ireland.

Maureen Dunne was born in Carrick-on-Suir in County Tipperary in c. 1916 and lived in Castletown House in Kilkenny, where her mother was a cook and her father was the head gardener. This collection of photographs was locked away after the photographer died, and only resurfaced several years later.
