What is happening in the photo?

Frank Parry, Second Lieutenant of the Royal Hampshire Regiment. Frank was a nephew by marriage of John Wallace McKay. He died four months after this photograph was taken, aged of twenty, in the Battle of Flers – Courcelette, which took place between the 15th and 22nd of September, 1916 during World War One. This battle marked the introduction of tanks in warfare. The photograph was made as a postcard by Chesney of London and is from the McKay Collection.
