The Ulster Volunteer Force was set up in January 1913 to resist moves towards Home Rule on the island of Ireland. Lord Leitrim of Carrigart, O.C. of Donegal UVF, organized for arms to be shipped to Donegal in his steamer the SS Ganiamore. 10 Unionist clubs held regular drilling exercises.
